VEG SIKKIM MOMOS

Veg Sikkim momos are steamed, pleated dumplings filled with a lightly spiced mix of vegetables like cabbage, carrots, and onions. They are a popular street food in Sikkim and other North Indian states, with origins in Tibetan and Nepali cuisine, and are typically served piping hot with a spicy red tomato or chili chutney. The dough is traditionally made from refined flour, but whole wheat versions are also made for a healthier option. 

• Dough: The outer wrapper is a thin dough, traditionally made from white flour and water. Healthier versions may use whole wheat flour instead.
• Filling: A savory mix of finely chopped vegetables like cabbage, carrots, and onions, often sautéed with spices, ginger, and garlic.
• Shape: The filling is enclosed in the dough, which is then folded into various shapes, often a “potli” or a pleated, bag-like style.
• Cooking method: The most common method is steaming, which keeps the momos soft and moist. They can also be fried or steam-fried.
• Serving: Served hot, usually straight from the steamer, with a spicy dipping sauce or chutney.
